Reflections from the Dean:
NAMTECH and the Future of MET in India

Dr. Sanjeev Gupta

India’s MET sector is undergoing a rapid transformation, driven by automation, robotics, and digital technologies. With national initiatives like “Make in India,” there’s a strong push to boost domestic manufacturing. Technologies such as Industry 4.0, the Internet of Things (IoT), and Artificial Intelligence (AI) are becoming integral to production, increasing efficiency and reducing costs. This digital shift improves performance and also opens space for innovation, allowing Indian manufacturers to compete on a global scale.

As the sector grows, it has the potential to significantly strengthen India’s economy—creating millions of jobs and accelerating skill development. A strong manufacturing base supports various industries and boosts national growth. Importantly, with the adoption of sustainable and green technologies, India can also emerge as a leader in responsible manufacturing. This kind of growth has the power to elevate India’s position in the global economy.

At NAMTECH, I have witnessed a clear shift in how academic institutions are preparing students. The focus is moving away from rote learning toward more dynamic, interactive methods that encourage critical thinking and practical problem-solving. Our curriculum is now closely aligned with industry demands and includes interdisciplinary learning and hands-on projects that prepare students for real-world challenges in the MET field.

We’re also embedding technologies like AI, machine learning, and data analytics into our programs, giving students the tools they need to succeed in a tech-driven market. Collaboration with industry has never been stronger, allowing students to gain real-world experience and insights. All of this positions NAMTECH as a leader in shaping the next generation of manufacturing professionals, those who will drive transformative change in the sector.
