MET: A Technology-powered, Future-Ready Ecosystem for India’s Manufacturing Transformation The Manufacturing, Engineering, and Technology (MET) ecosystem represents a bold national vision, where talent, technology, and transformation converge to power India’s industrial future. Conceptualized as an integrated, evolving platform, MET reimagines how India prepares its industries, workforce, and institutions for a future defined by innovation, sustainability, and digital advancement. The purpose of MET is to support India’s ambition to become a $30 trillion economy by 2047 as envisioned by the Honourable Prime Minister Narendra Modi, by ensuring the realization of Industry 4.0 across sectors. The ecosystem lays the groundwork for a new industrial era that is inclusive, innovation-led, and future-oriented. It is designed to bridge critical skill gaps, democratize access to advanced technology education, and nurture a future-ready workforce equipped to lead in the global industrial landscape. At its core, MET brings together the traditional domains of manufacturing and engineering, which are rapidly converging through transformative technologies such as Artificial Intelligence (AI), the Internet of Things (IoT), Robotics, and Smart Manufacturing Systems. These advancements are reshaping how products are designed, built, and delivered—optimizing processes, enabling scalable impact, and fostering a future where conscious technology and sustainability work together to drive competitiveness. NAMTECH has envisioned the MET platform as a space for dynamic collaboration between policymakers, academia, and industry. It strongly emphasises capacity building, knowledge-sharing, and the development of high-quality skilling infrastructure. The platform complements the Government of India’s broader economic agenda and aligns closely with flagship initiatives such as Digital India and Skill India. By anchoring itself in these national priorities, MET reinforces the Government’s commitment to positioning India as a global leader in smart manufacturing, electronics, and emerging technologies. It serves as a transformative ecosystem that redefines industrial education and skilling and also shapes the trajectory of India’s economic future. MET initiative is a vital enabler of India’s long-term industrial excellence and poised to be a key contributor to our collective vision of a self-reliant, technologically advanced, and globally competitive Bharat.

Union Minister Shri Ashwini Vaishnaw Urges Industry and Academia to Build a Future-Ready Workforce for India’s Manufacturing Growth. In one of NAMTECH’s most significant recent events, Union Minister Shri Ashwini Vaishnaw met with the MIT delegation, industry leaders, and academia at Bharat Mandapam, Delhi, on 22nd May 2025. The roundtable on 22nd May 2025 marks a pivotal moment in India’s journey to architect a transformative MET ecosystem. This convening would serve as a strategic catalyst—bringing together visionaries from government, industry, and academia to co-create a blueprint for a future-ready, inclusive, and globally competitive workforce. Union Minister of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY), Shri Ashwini Vaishnaw, called for concerted efforts to build talent and capacity in support of the Viksit Bharat 2047 mission envisioned by Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi, with a special emphasis on NAMTECH’s role in this journey. Addressing a roundtable comprising industry leaders and academia, he urged stakeholders to accelerate the development of a future-ready workforce to drive India’s manufacturing growth. The roundtable discussion focused on talent development and capacity building for sustainable manufacturing, combining a global perspective with local action. The Minister praised the emergence of a new sector, Manufacturing, Engineering, and Technology (MET), an initiative by NAMTECH. This initiative aims to meet the demands of Industry 4.0 and beyond, specifically by addressing the talent gap in emerging technologies and preparing a highly skilled workforce and future leaders capable of driving transformative change in India. Anchored in the Government of India’s vision for Viksit Bharat @2047 and supported by flagship programs such as Digital India, Skill India, National Manufacturing Mission and sector-specific Production-Linked Incentive (PLI) schemes, this initiative reinforces the national commitment to positioning India as a global leader in manufacturing and emerging technologies. Speaking at the occasion, Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw welcomed the MIT team, calling them one of the finest institutions globally, which is envisioned as a world-class institute for advanced manufacturing. He also acknowledged Indian industry leaders such as Suzuki, Siemens, ABB, Inox, and others, emphasizing that their active participation is crucial to making NAMTECH truly impactful and aligned with the Prime Minister’s vision. He highlighted the success of the Gati Shakti platform as a model for industry-academia collaboration, where companies co-created job-ready curricula by simply sharing knowledge, without any financial investment. He called for replicating such models across sectors to ensure employability from day one. NAMTECH, he noted, aims to skill talent across all levels, from shop floor to design and research, with full government support and mentorship from MIT, driving both innovation and a transformative shift in mindset. Shri Vaishnaw also urged all stakeholders to take the next steps, stating that the opportunity to build something truly transformative is now. MeitY continues to support ecosystem-driven initiatives that bridge critical skill gaps, democratize access to advanced technology education, and strengthen India’s global competitiveness in the electronics and manufacturing sectors. The event also witnessed the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between NAMTECH and Gati Shakti Vishwavidyalaya (GSV), Vadodara. The MoU, signed in the presence of Prof. Manoj Choudhary, Vice Chancellor of GSV, aims to establish a framework for collaboration to explore and undertake joint initiatives in smart manufacturing, transportation systems, logistics innovation, and future-ready skilling. NAMTECH has signed MoUs with partners such as Siemens India, Analog Devices Inc., and Applied Materials Inc. to develop laboratories, training centres, skilling infrastructure, and scholarships in priority sectors like semiconductors, smart manufacturing, and robotics. All the leading industry leaders and academicians ensured to work together for PM’s vision of Viksit Bharat 2047. The board members of NAMTECH, Professors of leading IITS in India including Prof. Krishnan Balasubramanian and CXO of Sisco, Siemens and many others.
DG Speaks
Igniting Ideas, Inspiring Innovation Welcome to IN:SIGHT, the first edition of the NAMTECH Internal Newsletter. It gives me immense pleasure to introduce this initiative to all NAMTECH employees. As NAMTECH continues to shape the future of manufacturing in India, the concept of Manufacturing Engineering Technology (MET) stands as a cornerstone of this transformation. MET is not just a program. It is a national vision that redefines the future of manufacturing in India, with far-reaching impact on education, industry, and the broader innovation ecosystem. By integrating cutting-edge technology with a strong commitment to sustainability, MET aims to create a robust, future-ready manufacturing ecosystem. During the first half of May, we had the privilege and honour to host Prof.John Liu and his team from MIT team on our campus. Hon’ble Minister of State for Skill Development, Shri Jayant Singh Chaudhary, visited our campus on April 21 and interacted with our faculty and students. He lauded our efforts in the field of Sharing Technology. Looking ahead, we will translate the insights from that dialogue into concrete actions: refining curricula, forging deeper industry partnerships, and launching pilot initiatives that embody MET’s dual pillars of innovation and sustainability. With every step, we’re not just advancing technology, we’re building an inclusive ecosystem that equips our learners, empowers our partners, and energizes the nation’s manufacturing future. Thank you to everyone who contributed to this newsletter, including the team working behind the scenes to bring it to life. Together, we are laying the foundation to uplift India on its journey to Net Zero and Viksit Bharat, until the next disruptor arises to change the game. Arunkumar Pillai Director General, NAMTECH
